
Trigg County dropped a Friday doubleheader at Trenton Peabody, Tennessee, and will return to the Bluegrass on a three-game losing streak.
The Wildcats dropped the opener 12-0 and fell 10-3 in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Golden Tide scored seven times in the first inning on three hits, four walks, and two Wildcat errors. Peabody scored five more times in the third inning when the lineup reached the middle for the second time.
The first batters in the Peabody lineup had five hits, scored six runs, and drove in four.
Trigg County had three hits in the game – all singles.
In the nightcap, Peabody again used a quick start to bury the Wildcats, scoring three times in the first inning and four more runs in the second.
The Wildcats helped the Peabody cause with five errors that led to five unearned runs.
Trigg County scored its three runs in the fourth inning. Aidon Butts led off with a triple to right field. Slaton Carter followed with an RBI single. Trevor Terrell doubled home Carter and later scored on a single by Matthew Leeper.
Butts finished with a double and triple as part of Trigg’s eight-hit day.
Despite the losses, Trigg got a couple of strong bullpen performances. Austin Stewart pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless and hitless relief with three strikeouts.
Brayden Jones gave the Wildcats an inning and a third of hitless relief in the second game and struck out one.
Peabody, a Tennessee Class A state semifinalist a year ago, improved to 12-1.
Trigg County (5-6) will play at Webster County on Tuesday, looking to sweep the season series from the Trojans.
