Pitching should decide this week’s All A Classic Second Region Baseball Tournament that begins Monday at four locations throughout the region before convening later in the week at Livingston Central.
Lyon County and Caldwell County bring identical 7-4 records into Monday’s 5:30 contest at Lee Jones Park in Eddyville. The Lyons have a team ERA of 2.97, while the Tigers have posted a 3.09 ERA through 11 games.
The teams split their games last year with Lyon County winning four of the last five against the Tigers. Prior to that, Caldwell had won 20 straight in the series.
The winner will play either Fort Campbell or Livingston Central Tuesday in Smithland. The Falcons (2-9) did play a pair of games over spring break against Clarksville schools — dropping both. Livingston Central (0-8) lost to Madisonville Thursday.
Fort Campbell’s last win over Livingston Central came 20 years to the day on Monday.
In the bottom bracket, crosstown foes University Heights Academy and Heritage Christian Academy meet for the first time this season at Simmons Field.
Neither team played over spring break. The Blazers, who swept the initial season series between the schools last year, carry a 6-2 record and a 1.97 ERA into Monday’s game. HCA is 0-2 for first-year Coach Brad Powell.
Dawson Springs (1-1) and Crittenden County (3-5) meet in Marion Monday. Crittenden has won 24 of 25 against the Panthers with Dawson Springs last getting a win over the Rockets in 2017.
Tuesday’s semifinals will be played Tuesday at Livingston Central at 5:30 and 7:00 with Thursday’s championship game also slated for 5:30 on Thursday.
