University Heights Academy has turned to a familiar face in 2nd Region basketball to take over as the head coach of the Blazer basketball program. Officials with the school announced Monday morning that former Hopkinsville coach Terry Hayes has been selected as the next coach for the Blazers.
Hayes spent 16 years as a head coach at Dawson Springs High School and Hopkinsville High School. His 2003 team at Hopkinsville went 33-3 and reached the semifinals of the Boys Sweet 16 before losing to eventual champion Mason County.
Hayes replaces Melvin Brown, who was released after being charged with federal drug offenses.
The Blazers finished the 2022-2023 season at 19-11, losing in the opening round of the 8th District tournament. UHA won the 2nd Region All A Classic, losing in quadruple overtime to Owensboro Catholic in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament.
