It is not very often that my whole family can get together. Distance and jobs dictate a quick get together for the night at our home. However, a few months ago we picked a weekend, made reservations and recently all headed to Pigeon Forge for a few days.

The grand girls are 4 1/2, 3 1/2 and 21 months. Then the search began for activities that would be enjoyable to all three, plus the adults.

I reached out to Larry Vaught (the expert on Pigeon Forge) for suggestions and immediately he recommended the Pirate Voyage Dinner & Show. I sent the link to all the parties and reservations were made.

We were advised to arrive 45 minutes early so the kids could get pictures made and get in the spirit of the voyage we were about to embark on. Caroline and Gabby excitedly put on their pirate costumes and Cate reluctantly donned her parrot costume. After all, what is a pirate without a parrot?

Upon arrival a group photo was taken which we didn’t purchase only because my daughter rushed ahead to get into the beverage line.  Slushes were available so a few of our party had blue lips and adult beverages were available. Always nice to have a glass of wine with dinner.

Gabby opted to get her face painted and get a flag to wave during the show. We gathered around as children were transformed into pirates. The package for the goodies and face painting was only $25 which was money well spent.

There is not a bad seat in the house for the show. Since our reservations were made late, we were on the top row and the experience was as good as it would have been on the front row.

We were served creamy vegetable soup (delicious), a buttermilk biscuit, fried chicken breast, corn on the cob, roasted potato, a slice of ham and an apple turnover for dessert. The food was above average and our server kept our drinks rolling.

The main event was the show. It started with parrots flying around the venue, pirates ascending from the ceiling and floor ,and mermaids ascending from the water. This of course immediately captivated the girls.

It is hard to explain the entire show. There were mermaids, pirates, divers, acrobats, tumbling, fire and audience participation throughout. I could go again just to catch what I missed the first time.

The girls were amazed. Gabby found it hard to eat because she “didn’t want to quit watching the show.” Caroline waved her flag so hard with Blackbeard that it might have hit me in the head a few times and Cate waved and clapped during the whole performance.

As for the adults, we all enjoyed it as much as the girls. The smiles on their faces and entertainment in front of us made it the perfect family adventure. Memories for a lifetime.

I cannot recommend this enough if you are making the trip to Pigeon Forge and need a perfect family adventure. Be sure to call early for your reservations and if you have someone in your party with a bad limb… ask for handicap seating. That top row can be tough on a bad hip!
