Wildcats Reach .500 With Win at Webster

Trigg County beat Webster County for the second time in eight days Tuesday and evened its season record at 6-6. The Wildcats held off the Trojans 8-5 in Dixon.

The Wildcats jumped out to an 8-2 lead and then watched as Webster County brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the seventh inning. Aidon Butts came on in relief to coax the final out to record the save.

Trigg jumped ahead 2-1 in the second inning on an RBI single by Austin Stewart and a sac fly.

After Webster tied the game at 2-2 in the home half of the second inning, Mac McCormick gave the Wildcats a lead they wouldn’t relinquish with a two-run single in the third.

Butts and Hunter Reynolds added RBI singles in the fourth inning, and Butts’ steal of home gave Trogg a 7-2 lead. Butts and Haydon Reynolds each had a pair of hits for the Wildcats who outhit the Trojans 8-5.

Each team had three errors and the squads combined for 17 stolen bases – 10 by Trigg County.

Matthew Leeper was roughed up in his last start but bounced back to get the win with five hitless innings. He struck out 11 and pitched around seven walks.

The Wildcats will host Calloway County in the semifinals of the 2A Sectionals Friday. The Lakers beat Union County 11-1 in Tuesday’s quarterfinal.
