
On one of the best nights of the spring regarding the weather, Hopkinsville High and Madisonville-North Hopkins engaged in nearly five hours of tennis action at Ruff Park with the Lady Maroons scoring a 5-4 win.
In the match of the night, top seeds Allie Fort and Kiley DeMoss squared off in a nearly two-hour and 25-minute contest won by DeMoss 7-5, 6-6 (7-0). The Madisonville freshman, considered one of the region singles’ favorites, battled back from a 5-4 deficit in the second set to send it to a tie-breaker.
Fort, who will compete in doubles at region with Ella Lester, showed her mettle throughout but didn’t have an answer for DeMoss late.
Lester cruised to an 8-0 win over Caroline Lovvorn in singles play.
Morgan Woosley needed a tie-breaker to dispatch Madisonville’s Macey Browning 8-8 (10-7).
Albany Ray (MNHHS) defeated Ella Brown 8-2, Addyson Raymer (MNHHS) defeated Madison Allen (8-1), and Mia Newcom (MNHHS) beat Aphasia King 8-0.
In doubles play, Fort and Lester cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over DeMoss and Newcom. Brown and Woosley followed with an 8-3 win over Lovvorn and Ray.
The deciding match came in the form of Danyel Reynolds and Paige Brummer’s 8-4 win over Hoptown’s Brooke Stewart and Chiani Leak.
