Two teams that had big runs in the 2022 Best of the West 7-on-7 tournament, including the overall champs, are the first two teams to be announced for the 2023 event. Organizers of the Hopkinsville football passing tournament announced Friday morning that Pearl Cohn and Gibson Southern will be taking part.
Pearl Cohn won the championship bracket in 2022 and was the champion in the inaugural Best of the West in 2019. The Firebirds went 12-3 during the 2022 football season. They lost to Anderson County 34-30 in the Tennessee Class 4A BlueCross Bowl.
Gibson Southern won the consolation bracket of last summer’s tournament. They defeated Christian County 23-15 in the consolation bracket championship game. The Titans went 10-1 in 2022, losing to Owen Valley 28-21 in the Indiana Class 3A sectional semifinals.
The 2023 Best of the West is set for July 14 and 15 at the Stadium of Champions and Tiebreaker Park.
