The Muhlenberg County Mustangs continued their recent hot streak Saturday at the expense of the University Heights Academy Blazers. Two Mustang pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter as Muhlenberg County claimed a 5-0 win over the Blazers.
Sumner Shelton got the start for the Mustangs and gave up just the one hit in his three innings of work, while striking out three. Talan Cartwright finished out the final three innings, giving up no hits, while striking out two and walking one.
Muhlenberg County settled this one early on offense, scoring a run in the first and three more in the bottom of the second. The Mustangs added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to reach the 5-0 score.
Ryan Luckey was 1-2 in the game with the Blazers only hit.
Starter Ian Tyler was charged with the loss. Tyler went two innings, giving up four runs on six hits, striking out none and walking one.
The Blazers (8-4) may have been a bit leg weary going into the game, which was their fourth since Monday night. UHA is now scheduled to be off until April 20 when they travel to Ohio County.
