Trigg County scored five runs in the sixth inning to cap a come-from-behind 8-6 win over Calloway County and advance to the championship game of the Class 2A Sectionals. The Wildcats will play Paducah Tilghman Saturday afternoon for the championship.

Trigg County took a 3-2 lead into the top of the sixth, but a two-run error and a single by Cole Lockhart saw the Lakers jump ahead 5-3.

Mac McCormick led off the Trigg sixth with a single. Ayden Joiner was hit by a pitch and Slaton Carter laid down a sacrifice bunt. Jacob Hunter singled home a run to get Trigg to within 5-4. Matthew Leeper laced a two-run single to right and Aidon Butts ripped a single down the third base line to add a pair of insurance runs.

Butts pitched a scoreless seventh to record the save.

Leeper had three hits for the Wildcats, and Butts, McCormick, and Chase Hampton each had two hits.

Aaron DeSpain picked up the pitching win, allowing one earned run in six innings.

The Lockhart brothers – Cole and Conner – each had two hits for Calloway County (8-8).

The win for Trigg County – its first over Calloway County in five years – moves them into Saturday’s championship game and ups its season record to 7-6.
