Coming into Tuesday night, Eddie Davis had appeared in just one game on the mound for the Christian County Colonels for a total of three innings. The 8th grader’s second appearance of the season on the mound Tuesday night was on the road at McCracken County, a team that reached the Final Four of the state tournament last season. That would be a tall challenge for any pitcher, much less an 8th grader.

The thing is, Davis did not look like an 8th grader against the Mustangs Tuesday night. Davis gave the Colonels seven solid innings as Christian County upended McCracken County 4-3.

Davis went all seven innings for the Colonels, giving up just two earned runs, on only four hits, two of them coming in the first inning, striking out six and walking three.

Both teams came out ready to go at the plate. The Colonels had six straight batters reach base after two outs in the top of the first inning as Christian County took a 3-0 lead after one-half inning. Aiden Lewis and Preston Phan had RBI singles in the inning.

McCracken got two of the runs back in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of a couple of early walks and a hit batter from Eddie Davis. But Davis would settle down from there and limit the opportunities for the Mustangs.

The Colonels struck again in the top of the fifth. After a couple of walks, Brylle Javier singled to score Aiden Lewis and extend the lead out to 4-2.

McCracken got the run back in the bottom of the inning. The Mustangs converted a Christian County error into an unearned run and the lead was back to a single run at 4-3. But that is how it would end.

Davis got out of a bit of a jam in the bottom of the sixth and then set the Mustangs down in order to close out the game in the seventh.

Preston Phan, Carter Sholar, and Brylle Javier all had two hits each for the Colonels. Elijah Underhill was 1-4 in the game with a triple.

The win was the 4th straight for the Colonels, who are now 11-8. Christian County has not lost to a Kentucky team since a March 26 loss to University Heights Academy.
