For just the second time in 17 games, the Franklin-Simpson High School softball team earned a shutout win Tuesday with a 7-0 home victory over Todd County Central. The only other occurrence came in a 5-0 win April 11 against Russellville.

Hanna Arthur went five innings and combined with Allie Utley to throw a two-hitter. The duo had no walks, no strikeouts, and faced 24 batters in the seven innings. The lone Rebel hits were singles from Addison Woodall and Abby Williams, respectively, in the second and third innings.

Todd Central did its part to keep the Wildcats off the board early on, as Abigail McPherson did not allow a run through the first three innings. In the bottom of the fourth, however, FSHS (7-11) broke through when Lilly Ferguson’s single began a string of five straight Wildcat hits; Kaitlyln Woodall made it 1-0 with an RBI single and Zori Stout cleared the bases with a three-run double to put the Rebels in a 4-0 hole.

Stout had similar success in the fifth inning, as she cleared the bases again when her fly ball to right field led to a three-run TCCHS error and 7-0 Franklin-Simpson lead. The Rebels finished with more errors (4) than base runners (3). It was just the third time they’ve been blanked in 22 games.

McPherson (10-8) finished with six strikeouts and no walks. She allowed eight hits and seven runs (four runs) in six innings. She’s up to 106 K’s in less than 100 innings pitched in 2023. Dakotah Gammon was the other Rebels base runner after she was hit by a pitch.

Todd County Central (12-10) will try to begin a new win streak Thursday at Fort Campbell. The Rebels then host a doubleheader against Dawson Springs at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday.
