
Madisonville-North Hopkins scored four runs in the top of the first inning and Caldwell County could never recover in 7th District baseball action Tuesday in Princeton.
A three-run home run by Aaron Hogart with two outs was the big hit of the first inning for the Maroons, who went on to capture an 8-3 victory.
Hogart finished the day 2-for-3 with a double, the homer and six runs batted in to lead the Maroons (4-13 overall, 3-0 district) to their biggest win of the season.
After starting the season 0-11, Madisonville has now won four of its last six games.
Meanwhile, Cadence Gibson (2-0) pitched well into the sixth inning to pick up the pitching win for the Maroons. He allowed two earned runs on three hits in 5.1 innings. Gibson struck out six and walked six.
Briar Gossett blanked Caldwell on one hit over the final 1.2 innings. He fanned three and walked one.
Brady Holeman had half of the Tigers’ base hits, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
After falling behind early, Caldwell got only as close as 4-1 after one inning and 7-3 after putting up two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Tigers are now 11-7 and 0-1.
The two teams will meet again on Thursday when they play at the Madisonville City Park.
