Last season’s 1-0 victory over Franklin-Simpson was the first in the series in over a decade for the Todd County Central baseball team, but it appears there may still be a mental hurdle for the Rebels to overcome after a 6-2 loss to the 3-15 Wildcats on Monday in Elkton.
Or maybe it was just a strong performance on the mound from Franklin’s Brevin Scott that had the Rebels tied up in knots. Scott went the distance to improve to 5-1 on the year, scattering three hits and striking out 12 with only three walks.
The Rebels finally got to Scott in the bottom of the 6th after loading the bases on a pair of walks and a ground-rule double by Preston Rager. A run came home on Gavyn Nolan’s ground out before Nate Reding stole home for the second.
However, Franklin was already too far out in front after a run in the 1st and two each in the 4th and 5th. Hunter Jones’ RBI single got the Wildcats started before Hayden Satterly’s run-scoring double added to the lead.
Gavin Dickerson hit into a fielder’s choice to bring in a run and make it 5-0 in the 5th, and Garrett Sadler grounded out in the top of the 7th to push the final run across.
Rager took the loss for the Rebels, allowing six runs, three earned, on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts over seven frames.
The Rebels fell for the sixth time in seven outings to slip to 8-8, with the teams set to do it all again on Tuesday in Franklin.
