Apollo Uses Strong Finish to Get Past Lady Colonels

The Apollo E-Gals had their bats raring to go as they traveled to Christian County Saturday afternoon. Apollo pounded out 16 hits and scored in five of the seven innings as the E-Gal got past the Lady Colonels 11-7.

The first three innings saw the teams go back and forth, with the score tied 6-6 after three.

Christian County took the early 3-0 lead after one inning. Avery Adcock led off the bottom of the first with her fifth home run in the last four games. The Lady Colonels would add runs on a ground out and a passed ball.

After Apollo got two runs in the top of the second, the Lady Colonels found the scoreboard again in the bottom of the inning when Saniya Shields doubled to drive in Jada Miller to make it a 4-2 game.

Apollo took the lead in the top of the third with four runs. The big blow in the inning was a three-run shot to left by Liza Skinner.

The Lady Colonel came right back to tie the game up with two runs in the bottom of the third. A sac fly to left cut the lead to 6-5 and then Allie Houchens got one up in the brisk wind that was blowing towards left field and carried it out of the park to tie the game.

The E-Gals got a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 9-6 lead.

Christian County had a great chance to make a run at Apollo in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with one out. However, a run off a sac fly was all the Lady Colonel could generate, cutting the lead to 9-7.

Apollo would then secure the win with two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Saniya Shields was 2-3 for the Lady Colonels with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Gracie Harned ended up 2-4 with two runs scored. Avery Adcock was 1-3 with a home run. Allie Houchens was 1-4 with a solo homer.

In the circle, Jordan Turner got the start, going 4 2/3 innings, giving up 8 earned runs, striking out two, and walking two.
