After out-slugging Christian County to win their first game of the day Saturday, the Lyon County Lyons used a strong pitching effort to win the second. Sophomore Eli Baker threw a complete game one-hitter as the Lyons got past Clarksville 2-1 at Christian County High School.
Baker got out of what could have been a really big inning in the first as the Wildcats used three walks to load the bases with just one out. However, Clarksville scored just one run, that coming on a Lyon County error on a pickoff attempt, as Baker got a strikeout and a line drive to end the inning with just one run on the board for the Wildcats. And, that would be the only run on the board when the game ended.
Lyon County got the run right back in the bottom of the first. Austin Spears led off the inning with a double and then scored on a fielder’s choice to even the game at 1-1 after one.
The Lyons would score what turned out to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the fourth, and it was Eli Baker helping out his own cause. Baker opened the inning with a home run over the left field fence to put the Lyons up 2-1.
From there, Baker faced just ten batters over the final three innings and never allowed Clarksville to mount a serious threat to the one-run lead.
Baker was 2-3 at the plate with the home run, an RBI, and a run scored. Austin Spears, Peyton Williams, and Brady Belt also had hits for the Lyons.
On the mound, Eli Baker went seven innings, giving up one earned run on one hit, striking out three, and walking four.
The win was the six in a row for the Lyons, who have not lost since the All A regional tournament. Lyon County improves to 13-5 on the year.
