The Lyon County Lyons are positioning themselves well with three pitchers with a sub-1.20 ERA this season. Brady Belt is one of those as he pitched a one-hit shutout Tuesday helping the Lyons to a 4-0 win over Trigg County at Jim Boyd Field.
The lefty walked two, struck out four, and allowed only a two-out double to Chase Hampton in the fourth inning. He needed only 90 pitches to get his fourth win of the season and retired the last eight Wildcats in lowering his season ERA to 1.17.
Belt helped himself at the plate with a triple in the second inning. However, he was cut down at the plate trying to score on a fly ball to Hampton in left field. Peyton Carney had an RBI single later in the inning to get the Lyons on the board.
In the next inning, Peyton Williams hit one off the board.
Austin Spears led off the inning with a single and John Bingham reached on an error. Williams then took an 0-1 pitch and deposited off the scoreboard in left field for his second homer of the season.
It was one of the few mistakes Trigg hurler Aaron DeSpain made on the afternoon. The Wildcat senior scattered nine hits and struck out four while allowing three earned runs.
Lyon County won its season-high seventh straight game to improve to 14-5 overall and 4-0 in the district. The win was their eighth straight over Trigg County dating back to 2018. The Lyons will host Calloway County Friday.
Trigg County fell to 8-12 and suffered its first district loss in four outings. They will host Crittenden County Thursday.
