Another former Caldwell County Lady Tiger volleyball player is back in the high school game.

Rachel (Smith) Gooch has taken the reins of the Webster County Lady Trojan volleyball program.

The school recently announced the hiring.

Gooch replaces Rachel Heath, who had a seven-year run at Webster.

The Lady Trojans were 7-17 last season but are just two years removed from an appearance in the 2nd Region championship game, bowing to Henderson County in 2021.

At Caldwell, Gooch played under head coach Sue Stone. Gooch also spent one season as an assistant at Caldwell, coaching the freshman team.

Gooch was part of a rarity for the Caldwell volleyball program in 2003, joining older sisters Laura and Abbey Smith to put three siblings on the court at the same time. The Smiths also took the floor together in a basketball game later that school year.

Gooch joins a long list of former Lady Tigers who are involved in high school volleyball.

Gooch is one of four Caldwell grads who are head coaches, joining Bayley (Tucker) McDonald at Crittenden County, Laykin Peek at Hopkinsville and Jessie (Stone) Ofokile at Bullitt Central.

In addition, Erin (Harper) Knight is an assistant coach at University Heights Academy while Casey (Stone) McCoy and Taylor Whalen are assistants at Caldwell.

Two other former Lady Tigers are now volleyball officials — Jessica (Davis) Martin in the 2nd Region and Jayme (Davis) Waddell in the 4th Region.
