Maybe someone should tell Eli Baker it is the second inning when he takes the mound to start the game next time. For the second outing in a row, Baker had a bit of a rough first inning, only to lock in and control the rest of the game as the Lyon County Lyons knocked off Calloway County 3-2 Friday evening at Lee S. Jones Park.

Calloway County used three singles and a walk to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. From that point on, Baker closed the door on Calloway County, limiting the Lakers to just two hits over the next six innings.

After struggling early against Calloway County pitcher Bryson Dennis, the Lyons got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Brady Belt was hit by a pitch and Aiden Waters reached base on a single, Turner Hurst drove in both with a double to right to even the score at 2-2.

The Lyons then scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a passed ball after they had loaded the bases on three walks from Calloway County pitching.

Baker allowed two runners to reach base in the top of the 7th after a walk and a hit batter but got out of the jam on back-to-back fielder’s choices.

Aiden Waters led the Lyons at the plate, going 2-3 with a run scored. Brady Belt had a single and Turner Hurst had a double, as the Lyon County bats were limited to four hits in the contest.

Eli Baker went all seven innings on the mound, striking out four and walking three.

Lyon County moves to 15-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight.
