Two games against top-flight competition were the order of the day for the Christian County Lady Colonels Saturday. The Lady Colonels were in Lexington to take part in the Lafayette Five-Star General Tournament.

The first game of the day for Christian County was a pitcher’s duel that neither team was able to claim as the inning limitation rule for the event saw the game between the Lady Colonels and Highlands end in a 0-0 tie. The two teams combined for just three hits over eight innings of play.

Christian County pitcher Jordan Turner and Highland’s Kaitlyn Dixon both gave outstanding efforts in the circle. Turner gave up two hits and struck out five, while Dixon gave up just one hit and struck out 11.

The Lady Colonels’ only hit came from Avery Adcock with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The second game of the day saw another tough one for Christian County. After starting off against a Highland team that came into the day with a 17-4 mark, the Lady Colonels matched up against Barren County, who started Saturday with a record of 18-1.

Barren County pitcher Chloe Witcher was the story in this one. After allowing a solo home run to Karlee Crick in the first inning, Witcher limited the Lady Colonels to just two hits the rest of the way as the Trojanettes took a 6-1 win.

After the Lady Colonels scored in the top of the first, Barren County came right back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. They would add an insurance run in the third and another in the fourth.

Gracie Harned and Avery Adock had the other two hits for Christian County.

With the results from the day, the Lady Colonels now stand at 12-9-1. They are set to be back in action Monday when they host Crittenden County.
