Lyon County wrapped up the top seed in the district tournament Wednesday with a 7-4 win over Trigg County in Cadiz.

Eli Baker smacked a bases-loaded double in the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie and cap the five-run frame and send the Lyons to their 22nd straight district win. Baker finished with two of Lyon County’s five hits.

Trigg’s Matthew Leeper held the Lyons in check into the sixth inning. He allowed just two hits and struck out 11 through the first five innings. He allowed a hit and a walk before he was removed for nearing the maximum pitch count.

With two outs, Turner Hurst was hit by a pitch and Austin Spears followed with a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 4-4. Baker followed with his bases-clearing shot to right field.

Spears got the pitching win for Lyon, being handed a 2-0 lead through four innings. Leeper plated a run for Trigg in the fifth inning with a single and Trevor Terrell was hit with the bases loaded. Trigg took the lead on a groundout and wild pitch.

Spears struck out six and walked four. Only one of the four runs he allowed was earned.

The game was the first for the Wildcats under interim coach Jay Breckel. However, Trigg County was bothered with the same season-long problem – errors. Three more Wednesday gives them 15 in their last five games.

Lyon County (17-6) will face four-seed Livingston Central in the district tournament semifinals on May 15.

Trigg County (8-13) will host Crittenden County Thursday in a make-up contest. The teams will meet again in the district tournament semifinals.
