
Visiting Carlisle County played Senior Day spoilers on Saturday at University Heights Academy, coming from behind to take the opener and completing the doubleheader sweep with a lopsided win in the second game.
The Blazers dropped their third in a row to slip to 13-9 ahead of a trip to Caldwell County on Tuesday. The victory is the Comets’ third straight and sixth in seven outings to improve to 18-11.
UHA’s Ian Tyler allowed a single baserunner in the first two innings before the Blazers took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd. Eli Finch led off the inning with a single and came home on an error, and Tyler took a one-hit shutout into the top of the 6th.
Dylan Jewell reached on a walk after Carlisle’s Javon Williams opened the inning with a single, and Brady Sasseen’s two-out RBI single tied the game.
UHA answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame and had an opportunity to close out the game in the top of the 7th. However, a Blazer error allowed a run to come home and open the gates for a five-run rally.
Tyler took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs, four earned, on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
Karter Hutchison earned the win for the Comets, allowing two earned runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeouts in one inning. Sasseen finished with two hits and Jewell drove in a pair of runs.
In the second meeting, Carlisle took advantage of a pair of Blazer errors and an RBI single by Caysen Mitchell to lead 5-0 in the top of the 2nd. However, a pair of walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for UHA in the bottom of the inning, and a walk, a sacrifice bunt by Lucas Shouse, and Ryan Luckey’s RBI single cut the deficit to a run.
UHA tied the game with a run in the bottom of the 5th, but a three-run 6th put the Comets in front for good. Back to back RBI doubles by Caleb Thompson and Koltyn Perez highlighted a six-run 7th for the final margin.
Dylan Jewell earned the win for the Carlisle, allowing an unearned run on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts over four innings. Perez and Sasseen each had two hits and two RBI to lead the Comets at the plate.
Josh Pace took the loss, surrendering six runs, two earned, on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Nic Luckey worked two innings in relief, allowing eight earned runs on four hits with eight walks and a pair of strikeouts.
