UHA Adds More School Records Following Area 1 Finish

The University Heights Academy track and field team added some more school records and personal bests to its resume Saturday at the Area 1 Championships in Paducah.

This comes as the Class 1A Region 1 Track and Field Meet is less than two weeks away.

The Area 1 championships is one last event that features the westernmost schools, regardless of classification, in one location.

BOYS

FIELD EVENTS

In just his second track meet of the season and of his career, Lemar Northington II set a new school mark in the high jump at 5-foot-10. The senior set a new record at last week’s Hopkinsville Invitational, breaking Derrick Quarles’ 2021 jump of 5-foot-8.

Saturday, Northington shattered his own marl by topping 6-feet-2 inches to claim first place by two inches over Union County’s Koleby Schroeder.

In the triple jump, Griffin McCoy finished second at 41-07.25, his fourth-best distance of the year. Union County’s Kanye Pollard won at 42 feet, 6 inches.

Jude Finch had a personal-best distance of 29-10.5 inches to finish in 24th place. Finch also finished in 28th place in the long jump as 12-06.

Aaron Onate had a personal best toss in the discus throw of 90-11 to finish in 26th place. He also took 15th in the shot put at 37 feet. Tobias Duncan finished in 23rd place with a heave of 33-04.25.

SPRINTS

In the 400 meters, Cam Brown edged Fort Campbell’s Maurice Moore by .02 seconds to snap Moore’s four-race winning streak in the event. Brown’s time of 50.82 seconds was a personal best and tied with the fourth best in school history. Isiah Pantiere, now running at the University of Louisville, has the four fastest 400 times in UHA history.

In the same event, Trey Wallace ran a personal best time of 53.39 seconds to finish in 9th place.

In the 100 meters. Lamar Northington II finished in 20th place in 11.97 seconds.

In the 200 meter-dash, Clayton Lester ran a personal best time of 22.98 seconds to finish in 7th place.

MIDDLE DISTANCE

Cole Glover continued his middle distance dominance by winning the 1600 meters in a time of 4:28.60 – the second fastest in school history and two seconds behind his time at last week’s Hopkinsville Invitational.

Glover finished third in the 3200 meters run with a time of 10:13.60.

Jude Finch finished 18th with a time of 14:37.33 and was 26th in 1600 meters with a time of 5:59.67, which was a personal best.

Tobias Duncan ran a season-best time of 2:13.68 to finish 12th in the 800 meters.

RELAYS

The 800-meter relay team of Cam Brown, Clayton Lester, Griffin McCoy, and Trey Wallace finished in seventh place with a time of 1:34.24 in a race where the top ten places were decided by less than 5 seconds.

Their time bested their own school mark by .27 seconds set last week. The foursome has now run the four fastest times for the event in Blazer history.

The 1600-meter relay team of Brown, Lester, McCoy, and Wallace also set a school record, shattering the old mark of 3:34.82 set at the 2021 state meet. Their time was good for second place.

HURDLES

Logan Miller finished in 9th place in the 300 meters hurdles with a time of 47.68 seconds.

In the boys’ standings, University Heights Academy finished in third place with 58 points. McCracken County easily won with 123 points. Marshall County was second with 81. The Blazers finished four points ahead of Paducah Tilghman and six points ahead of fifth-place Union County.

GIRLS

Emma Dill ran a personal record time of 18.75 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to finish in 7th place. She also ran a personal best time of 51.18 seconds to finish in fourth place in the 300 meters hurdles.

Aliviah Acree finished in 10th place in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 28.59 seconds. She also finished in 14th place in the 400 meters in 1:07.46 and was 20th in the triple jump with a distance of 23-07.

Cecelia Langhi finished in 16th place and the 800-meter run with a time of 3:01.34.

The Lady Blazers finished in 17th place with a total of six points.
