Intermittent rain and increased humidity Friday greeted the field Friday for the first day of the KHSAA Bass Fishing Tournament on Kentucky Lake.

Trigg County’s lone field in the event – Mitchell Green and Christian Jones – sit in 27th place after catching four bass that weighed nine pounds. Their big bass weighed two pounds and 14 ounces.

The duo caught five fish but one died between it leaving the boat well and the scales. Fishing rules state a fish must be alive for it to be weighed and counted. Jones estimated the fish weighed about a pound and a half which would have moved them just outside the top 20.

Green and Jones teamed to finish 28th at the state tournament in 2021 with a total catch of 18 pounds, 9 ounces.

Dade Vincent and Brock Vincent of Muhlenberg County lead after day one with 18 pounds and 12 ounces, more than three pounds ahead of the second-place team. The Vincents finished third at state last year when the day two’s biggest catches were between 13 and 16 pounds.

This year is the first time the KHSAA has split the event into a boys/coed and a girls division.

Maggie Miracle and Kenleigh French caught five fish weighing 17 pounds and two ounces.

Boats will leave Kentucky Dam Village State Park Saturday morning at 6:30 and return at 2:30 for the final weigh-in.
