The Caldwell County Lady Tigers came close to returning to the 2nd Region girls tennis throne this week. The Lady Tigers would end up finishing in 2nd place in the team competition, coming in just behind the three-time defending champion Hopkinsville Lady Tigers.
Caldwell County was led by the doubles play of Keegan Miler and Rachel McClung, who reached the finals of doubles play before losing to Hopkinsville’s Ella Lester and Allie Fort.
Josie Shaffer’s win in singles play was also important for the Lady Tigers as the margin between 2nd and 3rd place was razor-thin this year.
Caldwell County’s last girls’ regional championship came in 2019. The Lady Tigers would have had a strong chance to repeat in 2020, but the season was lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.
