
The Hopkinsville Tigers picked up wins in both singles and doubles play Tuesday at the boys regional tennis tournament in Henderson. Spencer Powell got a win in singles play, while VeShawn Blount and Timothy Marvel snagged a doubles win.
Powell knocked off Guillermo Ortiz Gomez from Fort Campbell 6-3, 6-3 in his first match of the day. Powell was then knocked out of the tournament by Jaxton Duncan, of Henderson County, 6-4 and 6-2.
In doubles play, Blount and Marvel won the first match of the tournament by getting past a Union County duo 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8). That win moved Blount and Marvel into a match against the top seeds, Jackson Crawford and Dalton Phillips. The Lyon County pairing would take a 6-1, 6-0 win.
The Tigers’ other entry in the tournament, Jacob Mendoza, dropped his first match of the tournament to #2 seed Mason Bridgeman, of Henderson, 6-0, 6-0.
