Hopkinsville advanced a pair of doubles teams to the Girls’ Second Region Tennis Tournament semifinals on Monday.
Top seed Allie Fort and Ella Lester lost only one game on their way to a pair of wins. They defeated Madisonville’s Albany Ray and Caroline Lovvern 6-1, 6-0 in their opener and breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Callie Mackey and Elissa Adams of Hopkins County Central.
They will meet four seed Cameron Chandler and Merrick Conkright in the semifinals. Fort and Lester beat them 6-2, 6-0 in last year’s region championship.
Morgan Woosley and Ella Brown advanced to the semifinals in the bottom bracket. They opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Union County’s Abigail Dreisbach and Tristen Thompson. In the quarterfinals, they beat Henderson County’s Abbey Gibson and Addison Kirtley 6-1, 6-1.
They will meet two-seed Rachel McClung and Keegan Miller of Caldwell County in the semifinals.
The four semifinalists will advance to the state tennis tournament at the University of Kentucky on May 30-31.
In singles play, Madison Allen dropped a 6-4, 6-2 match to Brennan Marsh of Henderson County, who advanced into the quarterfinals.
Brooke Stewart lost to Caldwell County’s Josie Shaffer 6-2, 6-4.
