
Crittenden County has a district tradition of disregarding its four-seed status to pull off upsets of the top seed in district tournaments. The latest came Monday in softball as the Lady Rockets hit a pair of home runs to back its strong pitching in a 7-1 win over defending champion Livingston Central.
Anna Boone and Elliot Evans combined to throw a one-hitter, getting solid defense behind them.
Ellie McDaniel and Andrea Federico hit back-to-back home runs to key a three-run first inning. Boone and Jayce Champion each had a pair of hits for the Lady Rockets, who were 1-5 in the district regular season with a couple of one-run losses.
Hadley Hargrove ended Crittenden’s no-hit bid with a double in the fourth inning that scored Victoria Joiner who reached on an error.
Livingston Central (17-8) wrapped up the district’s top seed with a 6-0 record but some untimely injuries derailed their chances to repeat as champion.
In the past decade, Crittenden County has executed four versus one upsets in the district tournament in baseball and boys’ basketball.
Crittenden County (12-15) will meet Lyon County (9-17) in Tuesday’s championship game.
