Lyon Doubles Team of Crawford and Phillips Headed to Regional Semis (w/PHOTOS)

The Lyon County Lyons will have an entry in this year’s boys’ state tennis tournament. That as a result of the matches played on the first day of the boys’ portion of the regional tournament Tuesday afternoon in Henderson.

Lyon County’s doubles pairing of Jackson Crawford and Dalton Phillips, which entered the tournament as the top seed, looked every bit the part in rolling to a pair of wins Tuesday, reaching the semifinals and guaranteeing themselves a trip to Lexington.

Crawford and Phillips won their first match of the day over UHA’s Lincoln Hauret and Rudra Patel 6-1, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, they picked up the win over the Hopkinsville duo of VeShawn Blount and Timothy Marvel 6-1, 6-0.

They now advance to Wednesday’s semifinal round in Henderson.

Lyon County’s other doubles pairing of Brandon Ray and Collin Calhoun advance through their first round on a forfeit. They were then knocked out of the tournament by the Madisonville-North Hopkins pairing of Ethan Larkins and Braeden Bell 6-0, 7-5.

In singles play, Deven Guess fell in his opening match to Weston Wint, from Webster County.

Zach Radivonyk lost in the opening round to Cade Howell, of Webster County, 6-1, 6-1.
