Offensive coordinator Liam Coen’s return to the Kentucky coaching staff has created quite a buzz among UK’s offensive skilled players and is being credited as a major reason highly-touted quarterback Cutter Boley of Lexington Christian Academy just committed to UK over a slew of schools across the country.
However, graduate senior offensive lineman Kenneth Horsey is also really glad to have Coen back running the offense like he did in 2021 when UK won 10 games.
“I am very excited coach Coen came back. Nothing against (former offensive coordinator) coach (Rich) Scangarello. I hope he finds the best position for him,” Horsey said. “Having coach Coen back and having that sense of familiarity is nice.
“There are always going to be coaching changes for all sorts of reasons but coach Coen has a system that older guys already know and trust.”
Horsey is confident Kentucky is going to rebound from “only” going 7-6 in 2022 despite several key losses on offense.
“I believe every team I have ever been on can be as good as it wants to be,” Coen said. “We have the players, the talent. The defense has been the rock for us so we always feel if we can put the pieces together on offense, nobody can stop us.
“(Former offensive line) Coach (John) Schlarman said all the time that if you come together nobody can stop you. We had a good spring practice with our team chemistry. We can be as good as we want. It starts with the next few months of getting our bodies and minds right and I have no doubt we are going to do that.”
