The tennis run of Hopkinsville High’s doubles team of Allie Fort and Ella Lester came to an end Wednesday in the round of 16 of the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament in Lexington.

They dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to the No. 2 seed Gracie Koch and Avery Voss from Sacred Heart Academy.

Fort and Lester had trouble breaking the serve of the Sacred Heart duo. Their only point of the match came early in the second set when Fort served up a point to avoid the shutout.

Koch was especially strong at the net, making it challenging for the Hoptown duo to get shots deep and keep rallies going.

Voss, who played in last year’s doubles state championship, and Koch rolled into the semifinals where they will face Dupont Manual’s Elizabeth Bryant and Sharayu Deo, who eliminated Caldwell County’s doubles team on Tuesday.

Lester and Fort wrap up the 2023 season with a record of 14-3 and a third straight region doubles title. They were seeded for the first time at this year’s state tourney and advanced to the round of 16 for the second consecutive year.

Both seniors, Lester and Fort have etched their names into the record book for Hopkinsville tennis as one of, if not, the best girls’ doubles team at the school and in the region.
