A team from Jefferson County and one from just ‘south of the border’ are the latest two teams announced for the 2023 ‘Best of the Best’ 7-on-7 passing tournament coming up in July. Tournament officials announced Thursday that the Doss Dragons and the Clarksville Northeast Eagles would be taking part in the event.

Doss finished the 2023 season at 3-8, losing to Atherton in the opening round of the KHSAA Class 5A football playoffs.

Senior Quinten Shaw is set to return for the Dragons. Shaw passed for 1488 yards and 10 touchdowns during the 2022 season. Shaw also rushed for 536 yards and 10 touchdowns, making him the leading rusher for the season.

The Dragons will be very inexperienced at the skill positions in 2023. Doss returns no one with more than 100 yards rushing last season, or with more than 200 yards receiving in 2022.

Clarksville Northeast finished the 2022 season with a record of 5-6. The Eagles lost to Mumford in the opening round of the Tennessee Class 5A playoffs.

Clarksville Northeast and Doss join Whites Creek, Maplewood, South Warren, West Creek, Daviess County, Macon County, Pearl Cohn, Gibson Southern, Kirkwood, Kenwood, Paducah Tilghman, and Logan County in this summer’s event.

The 2023 Best of the West is set for July 14 and 15 at the Stadium of Champions and Tiebreaker Park.
