What could be the start of an important month for Kentucky football resulted in three-star Georgia linebacker Antwan Smith announcing his commitment to coach Mark Stoops’ team on social media Sunday after his official visit to Lexington.
His previous collegiate offers were from North Carolina State, Minnesota, Memphis, Duke, Vanderbilt, Troy, Charlotte, Boston College, South Florida, Austin Peay and Appalachian State.
The 6-3, 190-pound Smith is ranked 679th nationally, 62nd among linebackers, and 86th in the state of Georgia by 247 Sports Composite. He’s known for his exceptional speed.
Defensive line coach Anwar Stewart was Smith’s primary recruiter and Stewart is known for his ability to find “underrated” players via his contacts in states like Georgia, North Carolina and others.
According to Josh Edwards of The CatsPause, Smith’s half brother, Deon Jackson, was a running back at Duke. His mother, Tiffani Smith, ran track at Miami and his father, Dadra Smith, played basketball at Utah State, so he obviously has an athletic bloodline.
Smith joins quarterback Cutter Boley, offensive lineman Aba Selm, and offensive lineman Hayes Johnson — all in-state players — in Kentucky’s 2024 recruiting class.
