2023-24 KHSAA Competition Calendar of Dates for All Sports

With the 2022-23 school year in the rearview mirror, it’s time to look ahead to 2023-24 and plan for the upcoming sports seasons.

Here is a sport-by-sport look at the season calendar for sports played in the Second Region according to the latest information from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. The dates and locations are subject to change.

FALL SPORTS

CROSS COUNTRY – First practice is July 15. The first meet can be held on August 14. The maximum number of meets is 13. Region Meet dates are October 20-21 at location TBA. State Meet dates are October 27-28 at the Bourbon County Field Course outside of Paris.

FOOTBALL – First practice is July 10 with helmets, July 22 with shells, and August 1 with full gear. The opening night is August 18. Opening playoff weekend is November 2-4. State championship dates are December 1-2 at Kroger Field in Lexington.

GOLF – First practice is July 15. The first tournament can be played on July 21. The maximum number of matches is 20. The region tournament can be played on September 18-20 at locations TBA. The state first round for western Kentucky will be September 25-27 at the Calvert City Country Club. The girls’ final round is October 2-4 and the boys’ final round is October 5-7 – both at the Bowling Green Country Club.

SOCCER – First practice is July 15. The first game can be played on August 7. The maximum number of regular season matches is 21. District tournaments can be played October 2-7. The Second Region Tournament will be October 9-14 at locations TBA. The state first round begins October 15-17. State championships will be on October 28 at sites TBA in Lexington.

VOLLEYBALL – First practice is July 15. The first match can be played on August 14. The maximum number of matches is 35. District tournaments will be played October 16-21. The Second Region Tournament will be played October 23-28 at a location TBA. The state first round is October 29-30. The championship is November 3-4 at George Rogers Clark High School.

WINTER SPORTS

ARCHERY – First practice is October 15. Region tournaments will be held between March 4 and March 23 at locations TBA. The state tournament will be on April 16 at a location TBA.

BASKETBALL – First practice is October 15. The first game can be played on November 27. The maximum number of regular season games is 30. District tournaments are on February 26-March 2. The Second Region girls’ tournament will be March 4-10 at Trigg County. The Second Region boys’ tournament will be March 4-12 at a location TBA. The girls’ state tournament is on March 13-16 with the boys’ tourney on March 20-23. Both are at Rupp Arena.

BOWLING – First practice is on October 1. The region tourney window is January 15-30 at Southern Lanes in Bowling Green. The state championship will be February 5-7 at Kingpin Lanes in Louisville.

COMPETITIVE CHEER – First practice is July 15. Region competition dates are November 4 and November 11 (Location TBA). State Championship December 8-9 at George Rogers Clark High School.

DANCE – First practice is July 15. Region competition dates are November 11 and 12. The state competition date is December 10 at George Rogers Clark High School.

SWIMMING – First practice is on October 1. The first meet can be held on November 6. The maximum number of meets is 15. The First Region meet will be held February 2-3 at a location TBA. The state meet is February 23-24 at the University of Kentucky.

WRESTLING – First practice is on October 15. The first match is on November 20. The maximum number of matches is 17. The First Region Tournament will be February 9-10 at a location TBA. The state tournament will be February 15-17 at a location TBA.

SPRING SPORTS

BASEBALL – First practice is February 12. The first game date is March 11 with a maximum number of regular season games set at 36. District tournaments will be May 13-20. The Second Region Tournament will be May 18-27 at a location TBA. The state tournament will be May 30-June 1 and June 7-8 at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington.

BASS FISHING – First practice is October 15. The region tournament is on April 27 at a location TBA. The state tournament is May 10-11 at a location TBA.

SOFTBALL – First practice is February 12. The first game can be played on March 11 with a maximum number of regular season games set at 36. District tournament week is May 13-20. Second Region Tournament window is May 18-27 at Webster County. The state tournament will be May 30-June 1 and June 7-8 at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington.

TENNIS – First practice is on February 12. The first match can be played on March 4. The maximum number of matches is 22. The region tournament window is May 10-23. The state tournament will be played May 28-30 in Lexington.

TRACK AND FIELD – First practice is on December 1. The first meet can be held on January 8. The maximum number of meets is 19. The region meet window is May 10-23. The state meet will be May 30-June 1 at the University of Kentucky.
