Lyon County senior Travis Perry is already Kentucky’s all-time leading high school scorer and the favorite to be the 2024 Kentucky Mr. Basketball. However, he still likes a new experience like the one he has enjoyed being part of the Adidas EuroCamp in Italy.
To get a different perspective on Perry’s skill set, I reached out to Ermay Duran, head of Fullfield Basketball/Owner of Ubuntu Basketball, to get his take on what he had seen of Perry on the Italian trip.
“I have seen Travis a few times through game film. Since I scout players as of JV internationally, he popped on my radar as a productive player to keep an eye on,” Duran said.
“He is way more mature than I expected. His behavior on and off the court, the way he conducts himself is pretty good. Not your usual high school level player.”
He already knew Perry had “gotten good offers” from top Division I programs.
“I hope he picks a good one and shines. My initial interest in Travis was sparked when my former long-time friend Alex Brown had posted stuff about him on Twitter,” Duran said.
The international talent evaluator likes Perry’s long-term potential.
“He still needs to gain experience I think at the college level before he transitions to playing professionally,” Perry said. “I think he can make an NBA roster as a solid role player having seen him now.
“But depending on his growth, that can change. There is no need to place a ceiling over him yet.”
Because he’s an international scout, Duran was not allowed to have “direct interaction” with Perry or any player. However, he said there was a “reason” Perry was selected to be in Italy and he had “proven” that on the tour.
“Working as a basketball player and coaching development expert, I now share a lot of my insights either on my site through my player advisory package for players or through my closed sessions one on one with coaches or those that seek my advice only on referral,” Duran said.
“I’ve been blessed to have worked at the NBA and NCAA level as well as internationally over the last two decades. I do my best to learn through each event, session, or opportunity I get.
“A great teacher once told me, ‘If you ever lose your passion to learn; that’s the day you know the ball will stop bouncing.’ I hope this all is good enough to put Travis in the limelight he deserves.”
