Cutter Boley knows what the trend has been at the University of Kentucky when it comes to starting quarterbacks.

The last six years, Kentucky has started a transfer quarterback. It has worked for coach Mark Stoops with 10-win seasons in 2018 and 2021 along with a nice bowl streak.

However, Boley hopes to change that trend. The Lexington Christian Academy quarterback recently gave his verbal commitment to UK and will arrive on campus in January.

“They (UK coaches) definitely wanted to fix that. They wanted to get a guy young to develop him and put him in the offense the right way instead of having to learn in one year. I felt like I was that guy,” Boley said after his commitment.

Boley talked to Will Levis, a Penn State transfer who started at quarterback the last two years for Kentucky, said. Levis praised offensive coordinator Liam Coen, who is back at UK like he was in 2021 when the Cats won 10 games in Levis’ first year at Kentucky.

“He has nothing but great things to say about coach Coen,” Boley said. “Devin Leary has nothing but great things to say about him and he’s not even been there for that long.”

Boley said it’s easy to tell “how smart” Coen is leading an offense.

“When I see him coaching the quarterbacks, I like how he talks to his quarterbacks. I like how he coaches them. I just feel like all around, we’re gonna be really good together,” Boley said.

The 6-5 Boley played two years at LaRue County before transferring to LCA when he completed 254 of 400 passes for 3,901 yards and 36 touchdowns in 13 games last year.
