While it may be just the middle of June, the defending 2nd Region boys basketball champions look ready to start making their run for a three-peat. The Lyons were among the teams over the weekend and taking part in the KABC Titan Rockets Shootout and had an undefeated weekend, winning a 32-team tournament that was played at the event Saturday and Sunday.
The Shootout also featured a 64-team tournament and a 32-team tournament that was played Friday and Saturday.
For Lyon County, the weekend began Saturday with a 97-52 win over 3rd Region foe Grayson County.
In the Round of 16 Saturday, the Lyons rolled to an 84-60 win over Scottsburg.
The quarterfinals on Sunday matched up Lyon County against Adair County, out of the 5th Region. The Lyons again roared loudly with a 98-58 win. ‘
With the win over Adair County, Lyon County moved into the championship bracket semifinals, where they would face Cathedral High School. This one would be a bit closer, but the Lyons still pulled out to a 70-53 win.
In the championship contest Sunday evening, Lyon County matched up against Providence High School. The Indiana school was able to get the tempo slowed down, but Lyon County, as they did at the 2023 state tournament, gave indication they can play that way as well and took the 45-36 win.
