Lyon County star Travis Perry went to Italy for the Adidas Eurocamp and was there for more than a week before his flight home arrived in Kentucky about 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
However, that same night Perry was playing two games with his Lyon teammates in the KABC Titan Rockets Shootout and ended up helping the Lyons win those two games and three more on Sunday to win their 32-team bracket.
Lyon beat Grayson County 97-52, Scottsburg (Ind.) 84-60, Adair County 98-58, Cathedral (Ind.) 70-53 and Providence (Ind.) 45-36 in the title game.
“We played well. We had a good weekend,” Perry said after his first out of the country trip.
While summer wins might not matter to some teams, they do to the Lyons.
“We like to win no matter what. We don’t want to lose. We have some fun in the summer but our most fun is when we win,” Perry said.
He also had some fun on his Italy trip that started with a minicamp in New York and then games in Italy before the players got four days in Rome to sightsee.
“I didn’t touch a basketball in Rome and that’s very unusual for me,” Perry said. “We saw a lot of really cool stuff that I may never see again. It was quite a trip.”
