High school sports in the 2nd Region is mourning the loss of a long-time coach. According to Vanover Funeral Home, 67-year-old Greg “Coach” Sutton, of Dixon, passed away Monday, in Dixon.
Sutton, who was a Union County High School graduate, was head coach of girls’ softball at Crittenden County High School, South Eastern Illinois College, and Webster County High School along with several travel teams and summer leagues, and finished up his coaching career giving catching lessons in Georgetown over the last 3 years.
Sutton spent two tenures as Webster County head softball coach, the last coming from 2012 to 2018. During those seven seasons, Sutton’s teams went 129-101-2, and won the 6th District championship in 2018, his final season.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 4:00pm, at Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Hanson.
