Summer exhibition tours for Kentucky basketball normally feature a relaxed coach John Calipari who normally turns the coaching duties over to his assistant coaches.
That might change in Toronto next week when UK plays four games in the GLOBAL Jam in Toronto because Kentucky is representing the United States against teams from Canada, Germany and Africa.
“We’ve got ‘USA’ on our backs, which, will I coach, won’t I coach? I’ve never coached in the summer but this may be one that I do because of USA,” Calipari said during his press conference last week.
While Calipari didn’t talk a lot about personnel, he did praise sophomore guard Adou Thiero and said he is reminding him of his father, Almamy, who played for Calipari at Memphis.
“Adou is looking more and more physically like his dad, who I coached. He’s probably near 6-7 now and he can play multiple positions — probably a 3 and a 4. But he’s way more confident, so yes he’s better. He’s living in the gym,” Calipari said.

I think cal will run a platoon system this year he has talent from top to bottom.but if the game is close I can see him playing his best five guys.So I predict some guys will get 25 mins a game and some will get 15 to 20 just depending on game situation.plus I see cal loading up the best coaches he can find to help these kids succeed at everything they do and picking up another center before the regular season starts.
Like your thinking Eric but I don’t see Cal doing that
Cal could use the practice same as the players.
Attention Bbn and social media please if you don’t have nothing nice to say about our coach’s our players don’t say nothing at all cause your tearing down Kentucky basketball. You say it don’t hurt these kids that live on social media your wrong. This is there dream school there dream coach and our kids have broken down mentally the last few years.Everyone says what’s going on is it the coaching staff or the locker room.lance ware said on rupp to no good podcast everything is great it’s just the fans our to emotional. They just need our support in hard times be patient and trust in cal he knows what he’s doing. So this year Bbn be supportive no more booing our players and coaches off the floor give them a chance to fulfill the dreams at Kentucky and win on the biggest stage in college basketball. If you say cal don’t care about kentucky your dead wrong cause he there for his players and there families even when they leave he keeps in contact like family. And when tragedy hits he’s the first to help him and his team to take donations and lend a helping hand.He wants to retire at Kentucky and be like all the others joe b hall he loves Kentucky and this is his home.I love everything he’s done for Kentucky so please trust in cal and our players this year and great things will come thank you bbn
Sorry Eric, I can tell you that’s not going to happen.
Go Cats!!!
You guys are ridiculous. All the Cal needs to go to way
Hopefully Onyenso will get some PT at the 5 spot with Mitchell at the 4 and Reeves at the 3. Dillingham and Wagner will be the guards.
Calipari will have Mitchell at the 5 and Edwards at the 4 with Onyenso getting the shaft again. I hope Edwards can play the 4, but what happens when Bradshaw comes back? I wonder who will become Calipari’s pets this year.
As I have been reminded here multiple times, I don’t recruit, I don’t (can’t) coach, and I clearly don’t set policy with the men’s basketball program.
However, I am a lifelong member of the BBN (75 years and counting), and I am absolutely NOT responsible for the deterioration that this program has experienced while Calipari shmoozes it up each June in the NBA green room, AND I absolutely will not shut up.
I have followed Kentucky basketball since I was 8 years old. That was 77 years ago. The only thing I can see that is wrong with Kentucky basketball is fans who complain about our coaches and/or players. Any idiot can see when something isn’t right. Idiots advertise this garbage to the world.
We have a terrific coach and a group of fantastic players. Period!
God bless your loyalty to UK Walter
Maybe Cal won’t ever take a knee for our American flag again, huh? UK should have fired him the year he did that. He can recruit, no doubt, but coach? I don’t see it, but with this group of top talent inbound, he should be in good shape to survive another year it would seem.
To the yoursportsedge.com admin, Good job!
