Kentucky football’s recruiting hot streak continued on Tuesday with the July 4th fireworks coming from South Carolina defensive back Quaysheed Scott, a 6-0 186-pound three-star prospect.
Scott had revealed a final five of Old Dominion, Georgia Southern, Miami (Ohio), Appalachian State and Kentucky in June making it seem likely he would pick the Cats for a chance to play in the Southeastern Conference.
Josh Edwards of 247Sports/The Cats’ Pause reported that Scott got a scholarship offer recently based on his play at UK’s summer camp.
“I was happy but I was not shocked because I was going for it. Most people probably wouldn’t have went that far to get an offer. They like that I was greedy. I wanted to get an offer and I came out to compete,” Scott told Edwards at CatsPause.com. “After camp, they took me on a little tour and I did a photoshoot.”
If his offer list does not impress you and match that of some other recent UK commits this month, note that he has run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. Edwards also pointed out that Scott’s cousin, Cam Smith, had four interceptions in six years at South Carolina and was a second-round 2023 NFL draft pick. He has another cousin, T.J. Sanders, who is a defensive lineman at South Carolina and had 16 tackles as a true freshman in 2022.
That’s why playing in the SEC was a major selling point for UK defensive backs coach Chris Collins with Scott.
Scott obviously liked Collins and the other UK defensive coaches and was ready to commit before even making an official visit this fall.
Scott was a two-way player at Marion High School who had 940 receiving yards and 540 rushing yards — but he scored 26 touchdowns. On defense, he had 64 tackles and seven interceptions. He also returned kickoffs.
“His passion for the game is evident in his play. He is not afraid to play downhill and make plays in the backfield. When he arrives at the point of contact, he lays the wood. Scott shows good instincts and ball skills getting his eyes back to the quarterback in coverage,” Edwards wrote.
He is Kentucky’s 13th commitment in the 2023 recruiting class and third defensive back joining four-star Terhyon Nichols and three-star Jiquavious Marshall.

6′ 186 lbs. is no small dude. Timed at UK in 4.4 and 4.3 at South Carolina on a laser. I don’t care about his offer sheet or his * rating. This guy has a ton of potential.
I agree Jimmy, some 5*’s never pan out, even with all the fanfare. Of course UK should take all they can get, but this young man’s speed, and athletic ability is impressive. Those things are gifts from God. I have read some comments from people who have seen Scott play, and they say he is the real deal. I sure hope he tears it up for the Blue and white. I am glad he’s a Kentucky wildcat. Just maybe UK got a future star.
With you Pup. Trust your instincts, not the recruiting stars
