In mid-April former Kentucky running back Benny Snell returned to Lexington to visit with students in the YMCA of Central Kentucky’s After School Program at Maxwell Elementary School.
Snell, who set UK’s all-time rushing record in 2018 when the Cats won 10 games, has played the last four years with the Pittsburgh Steelers but currently is a free agent.
Snell’s childhood friend, Will Maynus, also attended UK and is now the regional youth development director at the YMCA of Central Kentucky. That connection is bringing Snell back to Lexington again to partner with the YMCA of Central Kentucky for two camps Saturday and Sunday.
A football camp for boys and girls ages 6-16 of all skill levels will be held Saturday from 1-5 p.m. at the Lexington Catholic High School Football Field. There will be a sports FUN-damentals camp Sunday from 1-4 p.m. for youth ages 5-12 at the North Lexington Family YMCA.
“I always wanted a role model that would make a difference and that I could look up to and ask questions about certain things in life, sports, or school,” said Benny Snell Jr. in a release from the YMCA.
“I made a promise to myself when I finished college that I would continue to give back and make a difference in the Lexington community when it comes to youth. I want kids to know that their dreams aren’t that far from being achieved if they work for it!”
When he was here before, Snell posed for photos and interacted with the kids a lot and he plans to do that again. Campers will also receive a T-shirt.

Congratulations Benny and great work with the kids!
Thank you for giving back to the community.
What a guy. We were blessed to have him on our team and the BBN. So proud of him and I wish him the best of luck and many blessings in the NFL.
