Will DJ Wagner or Rob Dillingham be Kentucky’s starting point guard this season? Or could the two possibly alternate running the team?

Answers could start coming Wednesday when Kentucky opens play in Toronto.

Both are five-star players who seem at their best with the ball but Dillingham seems to be the better long-range shooter.

Wagner said playing with Dillingham in practice has been “good” and doesn’t think playing together will be an issue.

“He’s a great player. We definitely play off each other well,” Wagner said.

Wagner’s father played for coach John Calipari at Memphis and his grandfather, Milt Wagner, won a national championship at Louisville.

“My people, my support system, definitely help me a lot with just reminding me that I’m doing something I love to do and just to keep having fun,” Wagner said. “I’ll never really try to get into, ‘Oh, I got to play this way. Or there’s going to be a lot of people at this game.’

“No, I’m just having fun out there. So I don’t even look at it as pressure.”

Freshman teammate Reed Sheppard is glad he’s playing with Wagner and not against him.

“He’s a great player. He really knows the game, how to get his teammates involved. He’s just really, really good,” Sheppard said. “He can get to his spots. He can guard. He can pass. He’s just one of those dudes you want on your team and you don’t want to play against them.”

  1. Exactly, what? Kentucky does not need to do what they have done in the past few years, nothing to show because of this. Just go out there, and play. Best the Dukes, the Alabama’s and so forth! Get to the NCAA tournament and make some noise, and always remember, it’s a TEAM! Go Blue 💙

  2. I’m excited for this team. I think with the mix of new and experienced college players we should have a very good and fun season. However I’ve said that before and it turned out to be neither good or fun. But, It’s a new season and with it comes new hope.
