A former standout for the Christian County Lady Colonels softball team is going to get her chance to play collegiately at the Division One level. In a social media post Wednesday, Reni Shemwell announced that she would be continuing her athletic and educational career at Bellarmine University in Louisville.
Shemwell spent the past two seasons playing at Lake Land College in Matoon, Illinois.
Bellarmine is a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
In 2021, Shemwell was having a huge senior season when a leg injury prematurely brought her final high school year to an end. Shemwell still hit .419 with 13 home runs and 40 RBIs for a Christian County team that won its 17th straight 8th District championship.
Shemwell’s junior year was lost to the COVID-19 pandemic. In her sophomore season at Christian County High School, she hit .337 with 13 home runs and 42 RBIs.
