I always try to check Twitter while we are doing WLAP Sunday Morning Sports Radio presented by The Leach Report to see what listeners might reach out to us.
I can remember several overseas listeners who reached out but one comment Sunday jumped out at me: “Listening from Costa Rica!
Glad we’re finally back to talking football!”
That message came from Lexington’s Joni Fowler (@jfowlerpharmd) and made me wonder why anyone obviously on vacation in Costa Rica would want to listen to Anthony White, Jack Pilgrim, Beau Robison and myself, especially since in Costa Rica the show would be on from 7-10 a.m. because of the time difference.
“I travel a lot and listen from wherever I am. And you’re always welcome to come visit here,” Fowler told me after I reached out to her. “I’m down here with my daughter, Audrey. I have a boutique, beachfront hotel and am down here several times a year.”
Come visit? That sounded great.
“Sueño has a long history of Kentucky-affiliated owners. The guys I bought it from are equine vets and breeders in Lexington,” she said. “You can still sit on the palapa bed on the beach when it’s raining, so all is good if you enjoy reading or listening to podcasts.”
How great does that sound?

However, it’s also obvious Fowler is a huge UK football/sports fan. Her daughter, Audrey Fowler, is a digital content producer at WLEX-TV, the host of “BBN Tonight” each week night from 7:30-8 p.m. EST.
“I’ve been doing the NIL project with the (UK) football players where they work with our dogs at the Scott County Humane Society adoption events,” she said.
She’s been working with Eddie Gran, special assistant to coach Mark Stoops, and up to 14 Kentucky football players on the project.
“That’s one of the reasons I’m more excited about football. I’ve gotten to know many of them (players) as kids and it’s been a wonderful blessing to our dog adoption program in Scott County,” Fowler said.
“Our adoptions have more than doubled already in 2023 versus all of 2022. My hope is for them to be more a part of the community and grow roots so they want to stay here and enjoy being part of Central Kentucky.”
She even sent me a short video of receiver Tayvion Robinson holding a dog as he sits in a tube coming down a slide at Evans Orchard in Georgetown. He showed off his strong hands by not letting the dog out of his grasp.
“That’s a great drill (for receivers) for sure,” Fowler said.
