Lady Blazers Get Preseason Tests at Bluegrass State Games

The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers, who are one of the teams expected to contend for the 2nd Region volleyball championship, got the chance to measure themselves against some of the state’s best teams this weekend. The Lady Blazers were in Lexington to take part in the annual Bluegrass State Games.

Action for the Lady Blazers got underway Friday with the first day of pool play. UHA was in a pool with Louisville Male and Oldham County. The Lady Blazers split their two matches in the pool. UHA took down 7th Region opponent Male 21-16 and 21-19. UHA would fall to Oldham County 21-19 and 21-16.

Saturday pool play found University Heights placed with Pikeville, Logan County, and Harrison County. The Lady Blazers won a tough three-set battle with Pikeville 19-21, 21-18, and 15-6. UHA would drop a 21-15, 21-18 decision to 4th Region power Logan County. The Lady Blazers would then finish pool play with a 21-18, 21-16 loss to Harrison County.

With the results from Friday and Saturday, the Lady Blazers moved on to the Varsity Flight 3 bracket with an opening-round match against Scott High, the 2022 10th Region runner-up. The match was a three-set battle with Scott eventually taking the win 21-17, 17-21, and 15-11.

The Lady Blazers finish their weekend at the Bluegrass Games with a record of 2-4.
