With the start of the regular season now less than a week away, the University Heights Academy Blazers and the Webster County Trojans got together on the pitch for a preseason scrimmage Tuesday evening in Hopkinsville. Both teams would have their moments, but the match would end up in a 1-1 tie.

Early in the match, it was the Trojans that had the pace of the game flowing in their favor. Webster County appeared to have scored just four minutes in but a violation had been called just ahead of the goal. The Trojans would go ahead on a run down the right side, finding the net at the 12:00 mark to take a 1-0 lead.

The Blazers began to get things going in their direction from that point, but could not find the net until the 36:00 mark when Griffin McCoy took a shot that deflected off the crossbar and put it into the net to tie the match at 1-1.

UHA was the aggressor in the second half and had several opportunities to take a lead but could not get the ball to go in the net. Defensively, the Blazers were able to limit the opportunities for the Trojans in the second half.

University Heights will officially open the 2023 boys’ soccer season Monday night when they host Madisonville-North Hopkins.
