Trigg County scored on two big plays and kept the Muhlenberg County offense off the scoreboard in a 14-7 scrimmage win over the Mustangs Friday in Greenville.

The Wildcats were playing without two starters on the line and two defensive starters as they recover from injuries and sickness.

Jerimyah Shearer hooked up with Peyton Williams on a 69-yard touchdown pitch and catch during the 10-play portion of the scrimmage.

Devaree Gude plunged in from one yard out on Trigg’s second 10-play series. That score was set up by a 47-yard pass from Shearer to Williams.

Muhlenberg County got on the board with a 37-yard pick-six.

The only score in the junior varsity section of the scrimmage came when Jack Long hit Brody Renfroe on a short pass. Renfroe broke two tackles, went against the grain, and outran the defenders to the end zone for an 80-yard touchdown.

Renfroe also handled the point-after-touchdown duties and connected on both kicks.

The scrimmage is the only one for the Wildcats before their August 19 season opener against Murray at Perdue Field. The game is the second half of a doubleheader that features Calloway County and Harrison County in the 5:30 opener.
