With eight starters returning from the program’s first appearance in the 2nd Region title game, the Trigg County girls’ soccer team is stocked with firepower and experience as the Lady Wildcats begin defense of their 5th-District championship.
That’s not to say first-year head coach Jason Hite doesn’t have spots to fill. All-Region defender Olivia Noffsinger departs after posting 15 goals and five assists, and goalkeeper Sarah Sink leaves a hole between the posts after making almost ten saves per game with three shutouts.
Senior Lania Hite leads the returnees after banging in 49 goals on the way to All-Region recognition as a junior. Sister Leiah Hite provided the assists for many of those strikes, leading the team with 20 to go with 19 goals as a freshman.
Sophomore Addison Humphries returns to build on an impressive 13-goal, six-assist haul last season, with junior Hallie Joiner (6G 3A) and sophomore Maggie Wolfe (6G 5A) back to provide scoring options and pull the strings in the midfield.
The Lady Wildcats were known for their attack after leading the region in goals scored, but they were also fourth in goals allowed last season. Coach Hite expects that stinginess to continue with seniors Zoe Miller and Anna Sink anchoring the defense.
Other key contributors on the defensive side include juniors Bella Detweiler and Charlstyn Heath, along with sophomore Brooke Humphries. Seniors Mackenzie Delancey and Avery Ethridge also provide depth in defense, as will juniors Sidney Gamboa and Ansley Boyd.
In addition, Coach Hite says senior Camryn Boone has returned from injury and is playing some of her best soccer this preseason.
Trigg County opened the season on Monday with an 11-3 rout of hosts Mayfield Up next is an early season test against Caldwell County at home on Thursday.
The Lady Wildcats open play in the Kentucky 2A – Section 1 tournament on the road against Paducah Tilghman on August 17 and will participate in the Lady Colonels Showcase at Christian County in early September.
