The Todd County Central Rebels opened the 2023 soccer season by picking up a 5-1 win over the Hopkins County Central Storm in Elkton. The win was the first for the Rebels over the Storm since the 2015 season.
Despite controlling play early in the contest, the Rebels saw Hopkins Central take a 1-0 lead in the first five minutes of the match.
The Rebels came back to even things up at the 15:00 mark when Tanner Henderson scored off an assist from Zack Robinson. The score would stay even at 1-1 until the final ten minutes of the half, and then the Rebels broke loose to take control of the match.
With some new faces in the lineup at the time, the Rebels scored three times over the final moments of the half. Cole Gilbert scored on the near post from a Brett Harris assist to make it 2-1. Harris got on the board moments later on a perfect ball into the box from Tanner Henderson.

The offensive blitz ended when Chris Salazar cleaned up an errant clearance at the 38:00 to go into the break at 4-1.
The Rebels controlled the pace of play for the second half, but just could not convert their scoring opportunities. Todd Central did add a final goal late in the match when Chris Salazar found Tanner Henderson right at his feet in the box to make it 5-1.
Todd County Central opens the season at 1-0 and now gets ready for a big Tuesday night matchup at Ohio County.
