A big night from Alice Smith lifted the Lyon County Lady Lyons to an 8-2 win over Union County Monday in the 2023 soccer season opener for both teams.
Smith, who entered Monday’s game with 50 career goals, opened the scoring three minutes into the contest with Anna White adding two goals over the next 10 minutes for a quick 3-0 Lyon lead.
Gracelynn Taylor got into the scoring fun in the 19th minute for a 4-0 lead.
Union County got on the board with a goal before Olivia Adams tickled the net for the first time for a 5-1 Lyon lead at halftime.
The Bravettes were the beneficiary of a Lyon own goal to open the second half.
Smith finished with a natural hat trick over a 10-minute stretch of the second half to round out the scoring.
The Lady Lyon senior scored 39 goals last year in being named to the All-District and All-Region Team.
In addition to her two goals, White had an assist.
Richmond Herring had four saves in goal for Lyon County, who won its seventh straight match over Union County.
Lyon County will host St. Mary on Thursday before traveling to Hopkinsville Friday.
